HOW TO: Move A Box Spring That Just Won't Fit (Cutting and Folding)

We've been sleeping on the floor for the past 10 days...but not tonight! Woo hoo!

When we first moved in, the rigid box spring couldn't make it up the staircase, so we settled on just placing the mattress on the rug. Evan didn't like that idea, but I was like whatever. Also, Maddie really enjoyed having us sleep on the floor with her. It was like a slumber party!

Anyways, we contemplated buying a new box spring, but they're expensive and we're also in the market for a new bed. With that in mind, Evan decided to Google some solutions, which led us to folding and cutting our box spring. After a few hours of stress, we managed to get the darn thing up the stairs!

Sawed box spring in half, folded it in half, and moved it up the stairs

Reconstructing the frame with additional wood

Reattaching the dust cover

A bit messy, but it's done!

The directions on Instructables say to cut the dust cover in half, but Evan just removed the staples on three sides and folded it over to expose the frame. This way, you don't have to do extra work closing the center up later...saves you some time in the long run. That's the only thing we did differently, and it worked like a charm. I would say that the most difficult step is folding and unfolding the box spring. The steel wires do not bend without a fight!

If you guys try this, let me know in the comments! I want to know if this works for other people too. Good luck!

So, Evan and I finally closed on our house! Like what...who are we? I don't think either of us have ever felt this grown or been this anxious about anything in our entire lives, but we couldn't be more excited to be homeowners though. We're also so relieved to be done with landlords FOREVER.

A gift from our agent...too sweet

And as if there wasn't enough excitement already, we got engaged! I was so deeply consumed with our house details that I didn't see a proposal coming at all. I guess buying a home was welcomed distraction and helped Evan set up the most perfect proposal!

We closed on our house at noon on Wednesday and had planned on heading over later in the day to enjoy the bareness of the our new abode. Evan had been dropping hints throughout the month about having Maddie, our dog, film a house tour once we closed, and I loved the idea so much that I didn't even think twice about it. So, come day of, we strapped a GoPro to her and let her do her thing. I had my camera as well (I'm always documenting something haha), but I honestly had no idea he was going to propose.

So many people have been asking us if our new house feels like 'home' yet, and honestly, it has only been a week people! Things have been gradually sinking in, and I do have to say that it feels so special getting to step into our new home as an engaged couple. I wouldn't change a thing about how or when Evan proposed and will always remember that moment as sweet and simple and perfectly us.

I still can't believe that I became a homeowner and someone's fiancée all in one day. I never expected this year to feel so full, and I'm so grateful for all the highs and lows 2017 has brought me. Thank you all for your continued support, and I'm so happy I get to share my life with you guys!

Ring shots can be found on my Instagram and the story behind how we found our new home!
